2 players from St. Mary's brought home trophies from the Waldorf Spring Classic hosted by Westgate tennis, which took place May 21-22, 2022.
Trey Bergen (Leonardtown, MD) won the Men's 3.5 division without dropping a set. Trey took out Nang Khual of Halethorpe, MD 6-0, 6-1. He bested Akiwande Akiwumi of La Plata in the 2nd round, 6-1, 6-2. The semi-finals vs. Zam Khai of Laurel, MD ended with a 6-2, 6-3 win. Trey's closest contest came in the finals against Anzor Misabishvili of Columbia, MD, which he won 7-5, 6-3.
Jason Wynn (California ,MD) made it to the finals of the Men's 4.0 division, but after 9 hours of tennis over the 90-degree 2-day weekend, was forced to retire after losing a 6-7 first set to Chris Carlton of Hagerstown, MD. Jason's road the the finals included the following wins: vs. Jonathan Marcus (Stafford, VA) 6-0, 6-1, vs. Jeremy Pietruszewski (Alexandria, VA) 7-6, 6-2, vs. Steven South (Va Beach, VA) 7-5, 6-3.
