Fun League for 3.0 and Below
New for 2010, a fun league for beginners and all players NTRP rated 3.0 and lower is starting September 15th. Organized by Tas Mcwilliams and Marrisua Mansuetti, the league will run on Wednesdays from 5 to 7 p.m. at Cecil Park, From September 15th to October 27th. Interested players are asked to register by September 5th. The cost for all 7 weeks is $15, with checks made payable to Tasnim Mcwilliams.

St. Mary's 3.5 Senior Men District Results
Team Hundert, the 2010 local senior league champions in the 3.5 men's division, represented St. Mary's this past weekend at the Maryland District Championships. They came away with a 1-1 record and placed 2nd in their flight, which included the eventual champions from Howard county. Overall, team Hundert's compiled the 3rd best record of the 6 teams competing in the tournament.

SMCTA League to Benefit Dorsey Park Tennis Lights Begins Wednesday
A doubles league for men and women (4.0 or higher rating) begins this week at Dorsey Park, and will run Wednesday nights until November 17th. Space is limited to 20 players, additional registrations will be used as substitutes. 16 players will play each week, and will be teamed up with a random partner. Scores and win-loss records will be recorded and the season will end with a Hot Dog Roast.
Cost is $30 (for the season) for the first 20 to sign up, and $5 for subs per match. Players will also need to donate 2 or 3 cans of balls over the course of the league.
All proceeds (minus the cost of the Hot Dog Roast) will be gifted to the Department of Recreation and Parks to help cover the cost of using the new tennis lights at Dorsey Park.
Season Ends for Local Adult League Teams
Local champions from the Adult Gender League played well in the Maryland District Championships held July 16-18, but were unable to advance beyond their flight round-robins.
At the men's 4.5 level, Team Frazier were unable to secure a win, but lost a very close match (2-3) to the eventual MD Champions from Frederick county.
At the men's 4.0 level, Team Kim came away with only 1 individual match win by way of the #1 Doubles team of Jason Wynn and Jeff Howard.
In men's 3.5, Team Buckler defeated Frederick 2 4-1, but then fell to the eventual flight winners from Montgomery.
For the women, Team Slade/Bellis at the 3.5 level had 4 individual wins, but no match wins.
The 3.0 Team Mansuetti also recorded 4 individual wins.

Combo Leagues Gearing Up - Calling All Interested Players
USTA Combo Leagues need to start by month's end in order to have at least a 7 match season before districts.

USTA Combo Leagues Now Forming
The SMCTA is looking for all interested players (men and women levels 3.0 through 4.5) and captains for an upcoming USTA Combo league! If you are interested please contact Sue Bellis. The season starts on or before July 21, so let us know of your interest soon! Possible divisions could include 6.5 women's or mixed, 7.5 men's or mixed, and 8.5 men's.
