Warm weather enabled the fall after school Kids' Tennis Club (KTC) at G. W. Carver ES in Lexington Park to continue through November 18. St. Mary's County Tennis Association partners with the St. Mary's County Public Schools' 21st Century After School Program for Kids' Tennis Clubs. In the accompanying photo, SMCTA volunteers and KTC coaches Julia White, Brian Abell, Jill Huntington and Lucinda Rothwell (l to r in back row) celebrate with 20 KTC players on the playground at G. W. Carver ES. Thanks also to Carver's 21st Century site manager Michelle Donohue and staffers Tricia Herr, Ashley Logsdon and Kathleen Clausius for a great fall of tennis!
The Kids' Tennis Clubs use slower balls, lower nets and smaller courts sized right for age and ability, and give children the opportunity to try tennis in a safe and supportive setting. Tennis is a sport that gets kids moving, improves balance, agility and hand-eye coordination, and can teach self-confidence. The Kids' Tennis Clubs reinforce sportsmanship that includes essential character traits such as respect, honesty, teamwork, caring and responsibility.
