Avoid the wind and cold (yes, it'll still be with us even in March!) and register your children ages 6 to 14 for the Winter Season of Junior Team Tennis. SMCTA is offering a program of instruction and matches on Wednesdays from March 1 to 29, from 4:45-6:45pm inside the Leonard Hall Recreation Center in Leonardtown. The 8 and Under division plays from 5:15-6:15pm, while the older groups attend for the full 4:45-6:45pm period. All player skill levels (including beginners) are welcome, but space is limited.
Prepare for the upcoming outdoor tennis seasons with indoor sessions led by JTT Coordinator Brian Abell and assistants. Multiple 36-ft-long courts will be used for the 8U division, and four 60-ft-long courts will be set up inside the Leonard Hall Recreation Center for the 10U to 14U age groups, The fee for all five weeks of this indoor tennis program is $75. USTA membership is not required for this Winter JTT season. As the temps dip in January 2017, we invite you to join us inside the Leonard Hall Recreation Center in Leonardtown for some fun sessions of R&P Adult Tennis and the only indoor tennis offered in St. Mary's, Calvert & Charles Counties.
We have four sessions per week of Adult Cardio Tennis (Sunday evenings 8-9pm starting Jan. 15, Tuesday mornings 8-9am starting Jan. 10, Friday mornings 7-8am and 9:15-10:15am starting Jan. 13). Coach Brian Abell has lots of new drills and games to try this year, and he'll tailor each group's activities based on feedback from the players in that class.
Adult Tennis Lessons are offered Sunday evenings 9-10:15pm and Friday mornings 8-9:15am. You can sign up for the lessons and Cardio classes back-to-back. Each class series meets for six sessions, costs $55 for the six weeks and is available for ages 16 and up.
Senior Orange Ball Tennis is offered Tuesday mornings 9-10:15am for those ages 40 and up and will provide instructional tips and fun match play on 60-ft-long courts. While just a bit slower, it still feels very much like traditional tennis and is a good training vehicle to try new shots and techniques you may eventually bring to the full-size court. The Senior Orange Ball Tennis fee is $40 for the six weekly sessions.
Cardio Tennis is a high energy fitness activity that combines the best features of the sport of tennis with cardiovascular exercise, delivering the ultimate, full body, calorie burning aerobic workout. It is a very fun and social class for players of all ability levels. The one hour class includes a warm-up, cardio segment and cool down and uses music and heart rate monitors (limited number of loaners available). Participants elevate their heart rates into their aerobic training zone. The class leader is Brian Abell, a Cardio Tennis Authorized Provider.
